DST vs PES: which embroidery file do you need?

DST is common in shops. PES is common at home. A short guide to embroidery file types when you order digitizing.

DST is a workhorse format. Many commercial machines and some home machines read it. PES is Brother’s home format. JEF is common on Janome. SEW appears on some older Elna and Janome models.

When you buy an embroidery digitizing service, pick the format your machine lists in the manual. If you own two machines, choose both. We allow two formats on each order.

If you are not sure

Write the brand in the notes: Brother, Janome, Singer, Bernina, or Melco. We will send a file that matches. That is part of a basic embroidery digitizing service — you should not need a forum thread to finish the order.
